Stabilisers by Jasmin Coleman
Jasmin Coleman's installation entitled 'Off Square' features 396 hand-cast construction units systematically arranged to form a large counter-weighted structure. Within a framework of radical formalism, Coleman's practice investigates tensions between stability and instability by exploring relationships between material, weight, scale and form.
Jasmin Coleman completed a diploma of Visual Arts at Southbank Institute of Technology in 2003, and studied a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Queensland College of Art in 2005. Coleman has since been curated into many local and interstate exhibitions. She was selected to participate in The Jump National Mentoring Program (2010) and was a top 10 finalist in the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (2010) and The Churchie National Emerging Art Exhibition (2009). In 2011 Jasmin toured her site responsive installation 'Stabilisers' nationally, funded by Arts Queensland. Recent artworks include ‘Chaos Shields’ (2012) and “Inverted System,’ a temporary public artwork which was displayed at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Busway as part of the Museum of Brisbane’s ‘Platform’ Program.
